Inside Cabin

I was flying to New York on Delta Airlines, flipping through Sky Mall magazine because my MacBook, iPad, and iPhone all had to be powered down for take off, when I came across an ad for Sea Shield,TM a great new product for waterproofing all your Apple toys. It was exactly what I needed. Then I saw the price, $39.98 for a what was essentially a Ziploc bag. I got angry because I realized that I can buy a box of 250 one-gallon double zipper Ziploc bags for only $39.98 – that’s 16 cents per bag. Even I can make money with a 250 percent markup.

Angry that I had not come up with the idea first, I turned a more critical eye towards the product. Did I really need to waterproof my iPad? I looked at the picture in the advertisement and started to wonder. How does a grown man find himself plunging into the ocean wearing a dress shirt and tie, flailing to catch a falling iPad? What scenario could possibly lead to that predicament? Having just completed a two week cruise with my wife, it dawned on me just how easily one could find themselves in that situation.

Maybe it was formal night aboard the cruise ship Coral Princess. Maybe his wife was taking forever primping and pruning in preparation for dinner. He might have made a few snide comments in an ill advised attempt to encourage her to hurry up. He might have been standing on his stateroom balcony just reading his iPad while waiting for his lovely wife to move her ass and finish getting dressed. Perhaps he said something inappropriate in response to a question about whether her dress made her ass look fat. Perhaps she pushed him off their stateroom balcony into the frigid Alaskan water. It could happen. That’s why I always get an inside cabin; it’s much safer.

  1. Another scenario could be the he is a guy on a business trip and just landed the big sale, he celebrated into the wee hours of the morning and the other guys he met at the resort wanted to play a game of beach football, no football around the choose the next best thing....not the I have ever done anything like that before.

  2. I hate it when I see people making so much money off of ideas I should have thought of! There are so many ridiculous ideas too. Glad you stayed safe on the inside!

  3. There really and truly is a great product for iPhones that's a "normal" case and totally waterproof as my daughter just needed to test by dropping MY phone into a glass full of water and taking a video. She wanted proof. I believed the packaging. FUN post. I'd push firmly for a fat ass comment, too. And not saying you made one...

  4. I understand primping, but do I really want to know what your wife was pruning?

I love Sky Mall. Sky Mall helps me find things I would have never known I had to have otherwise.

I found a product I wanted in one, searched the same product on Amazon and got it $20 cheaper.

I would definitely stay in the inside cabin from now on. You're going to be in trouble once the wife finds out you told everyone that she has to prune.

  5. Yeah... that inside cabin sounds like a safe bet. And I totally hate it when I see someone making money off an idea that is so obvious and duh! inducing...

  6. Maybe he was trying to find a signal all the way out there in waist deep water, tripped on a sea shell and now boom. Look there. His IPAD is ruined. Good! He looks like he's in the middle of the bahamas. He should get off his damn gadgets and enjoy it.

  7. I can absolutely imagine the scenario where the outraged wife pushes him in. Sounds like it might be safer to own one, though, right?

  8. Was this a sponsored post? An altogether great endorsement for this product (and for cruise lines trying to sell inside cabins). I say push for a hefty commission from both! Fun post!

    1. This was not a sponsored post. The only reason I included all the links was to see if helps it pop in the search engines.

  13. LOL! Ok. I seriously love this. One *might* find himself in that predicament, yes. But it's cool because Sky Mall's ridiculous products would *totally* fix that situation... ;-P

    Seriously great post!

  19. Skymall magazines make me believe that there is still time for me to invent all the stuff I came up with as a kid.

  20. I bet nobody reads Skymall during the play-with-electronics portion of the flight so it has to be kooky and memorable during its few moments to shine. . .Welcome back to the grid.

  21. You and I think alike. I see ads like that and wonder who in the world sees that goofy picture and is sold on the product by it.

  22. So inside cabin or the wisdom to keep your mouth shut. It's good to have at least one of those. :) Ellen
